Chinese foreign ministry opposes US proposed duties on semiconductors.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said on Friday that China has expressed firm opposition to the U.S.'s proposed imposition of tariffs on Chinese semiconductors and its indiscriminate measures to suppress the country's industries.

Lin made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to U.S. duties on China's semiconductor sector starting in 2027.

He said the U.S. move disrupts the stability of global industry and supply chains, obstructs the development of the semiconductor industries of various countries, and hurts oneself as well as others.

"We urge the U.S. to rectify its mistake at the earliest opportunity, act on the important common understandings reached by the two presidents, and work with China in the spirit of equality, respect, mutual benefits and good faith to find solutions to each other's concerns through dialogue, manage differences, and keep the China-U.S. relationship stabilizing and moving forward," Lin said. "Should the U.S. side persist in its unilateral approach and go its own way, China will take resolute measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests," he added.
